Winning essay:
I used to live in an Orphanage. It was dark and cold and lonely. At night, I looked up at the sparkly sky and felt better. I dreamed I could fly there. In America, I can make all my dreams come true….. Thank-you for the "Spirit" and the "Opportunity"

Grand Prize:
A 4-day/3-night trip for winner and three family members to attend the launching of a Mars Rover in 2003 at the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida. Trip includes round trip coach air transportation from gateway airport nearest winner's home, hotel accommodations (2 rooms, double occupancy), $200 of LEGO retail product, a free one-year membership to The Planetary Society and a Planetary Society poster, Six RoboLab products for the winner's school provided by the LEGO Educational Division.
